Medical Doctor Is Top Career Choice For Thai Kids

A recent poll revealed the career dreams of Thai kids, and found that medical doctor still tops the list, followed by engineer, police officer, businessman and teacher.

The poll also revealed that Thai kids think the Kingdom of Thailand is the best country to live in the world.
BANGKOK – January 8, 2013 [PDN]; Being a medical doctor is still the top career choice of Thai children, according to a recent survey conducted by The Addeco Group, a human resources firm in Thailand.
The result of their annual survey, “Kids’ Dream of a Career in Thailand” showed that medical doctor still tops the list for the 4th year in a row. The reasons given by children for wanting to be a doctor included: wanting to help people, wanting to cure sickness in family members and others, and wanting a doctor’s salary of 100-10,000,000 baht.
The other top careers choices of children were, in order of preference: engineer, police officer, businessmen and teacher. However, being a teacher dropped down to # 5 in this year’s rankings. Also dropping out of the Top 5 rankings were the occupations of lawyer and cook.
Some kids listed being a street dancer as a choice. One child wanted to be a computer programmer, to create software games that match more closely the thinking of a child.
The children were also asked to list three things they would do if chosen as the next Prime Minister of Thailand. Most of the children answered that they would protect the public, develop the country, and develop the education system for the people in the backcountry.
Other priorities as a Prime Minister would be to create unity among the Thai people, reduce drug abuse and gambling, and the corruption among public officials and businesses.
As future leaders of the Kingdom, the Thai kids would also focus on developing local infrastructure such as roads, public transport, and hospitals. They would also focus on environmental protection to protect the country and the resources of the Earth.
Some kids used creative imagination in responding to the survey. They said if they were chosen as Prime Minister, they would abolish rules regarding school uniforms, install air conditioners in classrooms across the country, and allow sleeping after lunch.
Students were also asked what was more important to them in their career choices: spending time with family, or earning more money. More than 94 percent of students said that spending time with family was more important than earning a lot of money.
The children said that having a warm and happy family is the most important thing. They said that finding money could be done any time, and family should come first.
For the kids who answered that money was more important than spending time with family, the reason they gave was that they wanted to earn more money to provide their families with a comfortable lifestyle.
For the question, “What you want to do in 2013?” most children answered that they wanted to spend time with family and friends, followed by wanting to play games. The survey also found that kids are still focused on learning, and would put more effort into studying, and trying to be better in studying.
Finally, the children were asked which country would they want to live, if they could live anywhere in the world. Their answers included Japan, America, France, England, and Korea.
But no matter how exciting it may be to live in a foreign country, the children said the Kingdom of Thailand is still the country where they want to live the most.
