More than 2,000 products,
under the Royal Project, will be put on sale at the Royal Project Fair 2013, to
be held from 26 to 29 December.
Organized by the Royal
Project Foundation, the four-day fair will take place at the auditorium of
Chiang Mai University in Mueang district, Chiang Mai province.
Her Royal Highness Princess
Soamsawali will preside over the opening of this event.
Associate Professor Dr.
Anat Tancho, who is responsible for public relations of the fair, said that the
Royal Project Fair 2013 marks the forty-four years of the Royal Project. This
annual event is held to honor Their Majesties the King and Queen and members of
the Royal Family, who have worked to help develop highlands in northern
Thailand on a sustainable basis.
Apart from a wide variety
of products, especially organic fresh fruits and vegetables produced by
hilltribe villagers, the fair will publicize new research projects, as well. It
will also feature an exhibition in honor of His Majesty the King, with an
emphasis on His Majesty’s highlands development work.
New products under the
Royal Project will be launched, such as six varieties of rose, black caviar,
and giant cup mushroom. Professor Dr. Anat said that the Royal Project
Foundation earned 363 million baht for highlands farmers in 2012. The amount
did not include other benefits from development work, which help local
villagers.
The Royal Project came into
being in 1969 at the initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Chiang
Mai is the birthplace of this project.
